Dinosaur Cake!!

A little while ago it was my daughter's 2nd birthday and one of the first sentences to come out of her mouth was "ber-day.. dowdows cake", which means in real English "For my birthday I would like a dinosaur cake" (we're still working on the "please").

So it seemed a shame not to make her one.

I used the Betty Crocker design here but made a few adaptations. Rather than piping the teeth I used white choc chips, and the plates on the back are large chocolate buttons pushed half way into the cake. I would definitely recommend freezing the cake before decorating as you get fewer stray crumbs - which ruins the overall look of the cake. I went easy on the green colouring so ended up with a nice pale green dinosaur.
It went down a treat and it was easy to make - took me about an hour to decorate including freezing time, and I made the cakes the night before. Let me know what you think!

The cake inspired me to write an article on Suite101 about food ideas for a dinosaur themed party - the article can be seen here if you have any budding paleontologists at home!
